The folding smartphone sector is a record, which are really moving the saturated market. In 2021, 7.1 million devices with flexible screens were shipped, compared to 1.9 million in 2020. A figure that, according to the most recent analyzes by the research agency Idc, makes the segment jump to + 264.3% year over year. IDC predicts that, by 2025, there will be 27.6 million foldable smartphones in the world, also thanks to the growing offer from manufacturers.

To date, the industry leader is Samsung, which in 2021 launched the Galaxy Z Fold3 and the Z Flip3 even if in recent months the competition has not been watching, with proposals from Huawei (P50 Pocket) and Oppo. Analysts point out that the models known as “foldable” still represent a small slice in the broader scenario of mobile telephony, with only 0.5% of the total. A percentage destined to grow due to the increase in proposals which, for Idc, will result in a significant reduction in the prices currently required for a terminal considered to be high-end.

By 2025, leaflets will account for 1.8% of all mobile phone sales. Currently, 35% of foldables are, for Idc, in the United States. The forecasts of consolidation of the flexible mobile phone market are even higher for the research company Canalys. The latter foresees 30 million foldable smartphones shipped by 2024. Consequence of a certification of the average selling price of around one thousand dollars, compared to 2 thousand dollars today.
