(ANSA) – MILAN, MARCH 16 – 2022 will be the year of the consolidation of folding smartphones. So thinks Samsung, which has increased the production of flexible displays for its line of Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip. According to Ross Young, industry analyst and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the Korean giant would have expected the shipment of 8.7 million folding panels for the next models, while in 2021 the figure had stopped at 5.1 million. Last November, some reports pointed to Samsung’s anticipation of an increase in production of both the Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4. Regarding the screen-building technology, the Korean website Naver says that Samsung has defined a new technique, called Super Utg, which allows the panel to be more resistant, while retaining the characteristic fold. The need to push on a harder display would be a consequence of Samsung’s desire to integrate the S Pen into the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the stylus that from the Note series of smartphones has passed to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. To date, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 already supports the digital ballpoint pen, to be purchased separately. However, hosting the S Pen directly in the folding chassis would allow users to make a more continuous use of it, thus having to ensure that the screen is not ruined in daily activities. On the timing, also due to the persistence of the semiconductor crisis, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 should see the light in October and not, as in the past, in September. According to the most recent data from the market agency Counterpoint, revenues from sales of Samsung phones grew by 11% year on year, reaching the share of 72 billion dollars in 2021, compared to 64 billion in 2020.
