(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 17 – Announced in recent months, the new Instagram section called Family Center is available for subscribers to the social network in the United States. Inside, a series of features with which parents and guardians can monitor the use of the platform by minors.

As Meta explains in a note, in the initial phase adults will also be able to view the list of accounts followed by the little ones, as well as the list of those who follow them. For each new contact, the Family Center will send a notification to warn of the increase in followers and following. Meta confirmed that the center dedicated to monitoring is only the first of other tools that in the future will make it possible to supervise the digital life of minors on the group’s social network: “We have worked closely with experts, parents, guardians and adolescents to develop Family Center , a new place where you can supervise children’s accounts within Meta technologies, set up and use management tools and access resources on how to communicate with them on the use of the Internet “, reads the note. Once the Family Center has been granted access from the app used by minors, the counterpart on the controller’s smartphone will allow access to the dedicated page. In 2021, Instagram halted development of a child-specific app due to revelations about the platform’s impact on teen mental health, partly spread by former Facebook employee Frances Haugen.
