You were relying on iOS 15 to find your lost AirPods Pro? Bad news…

Apple has made a great offensive in recent years in the area of locating your objects. The firm recently launched AirTags, its connected trackers, and it is possible to see on a map almost all your Apple objects, to ring them to find them, to place them in “lost mode” or to erase or even return them. unusable remotely.

This is true for Macs and iPhones regardless of the model. Yet while AirPods are now over 5 years old, it is still impossible to do the same, as of this writing, with AirPods – especially the more expensive versions of the product which are AirPods Pro and the AirPods Max.

Apple further delays inclusion of lost or stolen AirPods Pro in Find My app

However, Apple now explains to us, iOS 15 must precisely repair what one could almost qualify as an anachronism in the ecosystem. In any case for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. They should indeed join the tracking system on which the Locate app is based. Concretely in the event of loss or theft, your accessory can be detected by the surrounding iPhones.

Thus allowing to display in the application Locate their approximate location. Obviously the system immediately seems less efficient than on iPhone, on which it is possible to display a message indicating to the one who finds it how to return the device to its owner, in addition to the possibility of remotely erasing your smartphone. and make it totally unusable.

However, while we are at the launch of the consumer version of iOS 15, which was to immediately add the location of these two models of headphones, Apple has, the day before, discreetly updated its presentation pages on the new version of the operating system. In particular the passage on the addition of AirPods Pro and AirPods Max to the Locate network. The update could go almost unnoticed – it’s just an asterisk to refer us to the mention “Expected arrival later this fall”.

The functionality will arrive at the same time as other new features of iOS 15 such as SharePlay, which allows you to share what you do in other Apple applications with your contacts.
