Former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly supported Ukraine from the first days of the war, and now he has moved from words to deeds. The American launched an NFT art project called “Dreams Out of This World”.
A series of fragments was put up for auction on International Day of Human Space Flight. The auction was to run for three days on the NFT OpenSea trading floor. But all the collection was sold out in just a few hoursraising over $500,000.
All proceeds from the sale will go to help Ukraine, which suffered from Russian military aggression.
“Thank you to everyone who supported this project! It’s amazing that in the midst of this war, we can unite through art to help the people of Ukraine. Over $500,000 has been raised today!” Kelly wrote on Twitter today.
Recall that Scott supported Ukraine on social networks and regularly criticized the Russian leadership on his Twitter. It got to the point that he publicly announced that he was refusing the medal “For Merit in Space Exploration”, which was presented to him by Dmitry Medvedev.
It turns out that Kelly has family ties with Ukraine. Now his 9-year-old nephew Isaak has launched a website where things with Ukrainian symbols are sold, and he will send all the proceeds to the UNICEF fund.
“My nephew and niece are of Ukrainian descent. It was painful to see their family’s homeland being attacked.
However, despite his desperation, Isaac is committed to starting a fundraiser to help families in Ukraine. Join his mission!” the astronaut admitted.
