Why do some people live so long

It is believed that human life expectancy depends on genetics, environment and lifestyle. Scientists have studied centenarians (people who live to be 100 years old) and “super-centenarians” (people who live to be 110 or older) to better understand the factors that increase life expectancy.

Some scientists suggest that lifestyle factors, including diet and exercise, play an important role in the first 80 years of lifeafter which genetic factors become increasingly important in maintaining a person’s health as they age.

Genetic variants that have been associated with increased lifespan include those in the ABO, CDKN2B, APOE, and SH2B3 genes. It was found that these variants are more common in centenarians than in people with an average life expectancy.
