The decline of the PC market continues with the pandemic that is fading, at least for the moment, and that had been a driving force in the last two years.

According to the analysis of Counterpoint Research the sector, in the first quarter of the year, lost 4.3%, with sales that stopped at 78.7 million units. At the top of the list of best-selling brands remains Lenovo, which however goes from 20.1 million units in the first quarter of 2021 to today’s 18.2 million (-10%). The drop was even more evident for the second largest producer in the world, HP, which sold 15.9 million PCs compared to 18.8 million a year ago (-16%). Dell’s numbers are essentially stable, gaining 1% from the previous quarter (13.8 million on 13.6 in 2021). Apple is definitely growing, with 7.1 million fixed and portable computers globally, up from 6.6 million units in 2021 (+ 8%). According to analysts, one of the sectors that has allowed Apple to gain ground is that of schools, especially in the United States, where Apple’s notebook line is reducing the distance towards Chromebooks, the economic devices that had surpassed the giant. of Cupertino in school use, especially for the reduced price of laptops that run with the Google Chrome Os operating system.

The data from Counterpoint Research underline a slight recovery at least in the supplies necessary for the construction of PCs, after more than a year of shortage of semiconductors. The uncertainty arising from global inflation and the war in Ukraine, which is holding back purchases almost everywhere, and the temporary blockades of factories in China, still struggling with containment due to infections, counterbalance the positive trend in the supply chain from Covid-19.
