Security, Italians most affected by hackers in Europe

(ANSA) – MILAN, MAY 12 – Ransomware attacks against Italian users and companies continue. In March, our country was the first, at European level, for the number of threats regarding the specific type of malware, which blocks computers and requires a ransom for recovery. This is what emerges from the most recent report by Trend Micro Research, an IT security company, according to which in March about 2.47 million ransomware attacks were recorded worldwide, of which 2.66% in Italy. Japan is in the lead in the ranking of the most affected countries, with a fifth of global attacks (just over 20%), closely followed by the United States and Mexico. Also with regard to macromalware, malicious programs contained within Word or Excel documents capable of causing a lot of damage to the PCs affected, Italy is the first European nation for number of attacks (1,393) and the third in the world after Japan. (43,649) and the United States (2,879). The malware that hit Italy are 15,481,554 and the country is fifth in the world after Japan (128,090,571), United States (87,904,737), India (18,367,627) and UK (16,871,859). The data is the result of analysis by the Smart Protection Network, Trend Micro’s global intelligence network that identifies and analyzes threats and constantly updates the online database of cyber incidents, to block attacks in real time.

The Smart Protection Network is made up of more than 250 million sensors and blocks an average of 65 billion threats annually, with approximately 94 billion blocked in 2021. As of March 2022, Trend Micro’s Smart Protection Network handled 513 billion requests and stopped 11.2 million threats, of which about 65% via e-mail. (HANDLE).
