The war in Ukraine and the shortage of chips and technological components would lead Samsung to revise the production of smartphones downwards for 2022. The initial goal was the production of 310 million smartphones, which then dropped to 280 million, 30 million less than to last year and than expected. This was reported by the Korean economic newspaper Maeil Business in turn cited by SamMobile.

The reasons why Samsung would have decided to cut the number of units to be produced this year are the same as for the entire market: increased costs from raw materials to transport, difficult supply of components, the war in Ukraine that has complicated things and in general a situation of uncertainty that is pushing consumers to weigh their purchases.

For the economic context, similar strategies could be followed by other companies. Apple, for example, has decided to keep iPhone production for 2022 at 220 million units, which is the same as last year. According to Bloomberg, analysts estimated a production of 240 million iPhone users.
