We already know the name and price of the Apple headset, and it’s (a little) cheaper

  • A leak suggests that Apple’s XR headphones could cost $1,999 at launch, well below the original $3,000 price tag
  • The XR headset is said to feature dual X1 chips, a 12-camera system, 8K XDR optics and run the xrOS operating system
  • The official announcement is expected at Apple’s WWDC 2023 keynote later today.

A few hours before the presentation keynote, the price and the final name of the Apple headphones were released on the web. The XR (that’s its name) could cost $1,999 at launch, a far cry from the original $3,000.

The leak suggests that the helmet’s name would therefore simply be “XR”, a name that has already been mentioned in previous trademark filings. However, the same post also refers to the headphones as “The Apple Reality Pro”, another name mentioned in trademark filings and rumors and already adopted by the press for a few days.

A new Apple revolution?

In terms of specifications, the helmet should be equipped with “two X1 chips”of a “12 camera system”of a “stunning 8K XDR optics” and use “xrOS” as an operating system. The starting price of $1,999 suggests that there could be several options to choose from, which could mean different levels of storage and memory could be available.

The announcement comes just hours away from Apple’s WWDC 2023 keynote, where Apple is expected to unveil a slew of new products and updates to its operating system. Among these novelties, Apple’s XR headphones are undoubtedly one of the most anticipated.

Apple’s XR headphones have been one of the most mysterious products in the tech world for many years. Especially since previous attempts by competitors in this market have proved unsuccessful. If the rumors are true, the XR could represent a giant leap forward in mixed reality, combining virtual reality and augmented reality to deliver a fully immersive user experience.

On the other hand, the starting price of 1,999 dollars, much lower than the 3,000 dollars previously announced, remains a very high price which will reserve this helmet for a wealthy and/or passionate public. According to analysts, it will take four to five for Apple to democratize this technology, if it does.

See you tonight live to follow the WWDC 23 keynote with us. Like every year, the whole team is on hand to make you experience the event as if you were there.
