The 4 million tender to protect biodiversity is underway

After the success of the first tender, which made it possible to assign over 9 million euros to 57 innovative projects throughout Italy, the National Research Council is providing another 4 million euros as part of the activities of the National Biodiversity Future Center, intended to park authorities and marine protected areas that are committed to protecting biodiversity with monitoring, conservation, restoration and enhancement activities.

In order to access funding, the projects presented must also stimulate the participation of citizens and those involved in the development and demonstration of new technologies and applications, and must implement targeted initiatives to improve the sustainability of socio-economic activities, thus supporting development of the ‘Biodiversity Science Gateway’: a large virtual infrastructure dedicated to education and innovation which relies on some physical offices in Italy and on the CNR oceanographic vessel Gaia Blu, through which the results obtained will be shared, valorised and disseminated.

The National Biodiversity Future Center is one of five national centers dedicated to frontier research, which involves institutions and companies throughout Italy. It is the first Italian center dedicated to biodiversity, launched in 2022 and financed thanks to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. With a network of around 2,000 researchers and 49 participating institutions coordinated by the Cnr, it carries out research and promotes the development of solutions to counteract the effects of the impact of human activities and climate change. The primary objective is to protect the resources provided by ecosystems and, at the same time, ensure the quality of well-being.
