Schahaff won the prize after participating in a fundraising lottery run by the company on the Omaze platform. The lottery raised $ 1.7 million, with an entry fee starting at $ 10.
Schahaff wants to fly with her 17-year-old daughter, who is studying natural sciences in the UK and dreams of getting a job at NASA.

Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson personally came to the Shahaff home in Antigua and Barbuda in November to surprise her and break the news.
“I just thought I was doing an interview. When I saw Branson, I started screaming! I couldn’t believe it,” Schahaff said.

“The ability to provide people of all ages and backgrounds with equal access to space is what Virgin Galactic has been striving for over the past two decades,” Branson said.
Virgin Galactic has already pre-sold about 700 tickets to space: 600 between 2005 and 2014 at up to $ 250,000 and another 100 from August at $ 450,000.
