A VR mod is in the works for the Cyberpunk 2077 game

A year after its failed release, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to have made a comeback. This upturn did not allow the game produced by CD Projekt to reconnect with the studio’s original ambitions. Nevertheless, it allowed him to extricate himself from the trash cans of history to which he was almost doomed. To do this, the game’s editors have relied mainly on new additions that have given players back interest. The latest is the future transposition into virtual reality planned for the game. This should even be done very soon if the project evolves quickly without any hiccups.

A project led by a seasoned designer

Cyberpunk 2077’s VR mod will not be made by just anyone. CD Projekt gave moderator Luke Ross the green light to do this. The latter is well known in the field. He had already worked on the REAL VR mods for GTA 5 and those for Red Dead Redemption 2. The VR specialist was also the person who confirmed the information even when he was speaking to journalists from PC Gamer.

Ross also admitted that until today, he and his team have always avoided the Cyberpunk 2077 modder. Like everyone else, we want to say since it’s common knowledge that the game has been shining, since its launch, by its technical instability.

However, he was taken aback by a poll he conducted on his Patreon page. In the famous poll, he asked fans to donate games that they would like to see him model in the future. Unfortunately for him, Cyberpunk 2077 came out on top.

A result which on the one hand shows that people want to see the CD Projekt game perform at its best.

Cyberpunk 2077, a game with interesting features for virtual reality

Luke Cross mentioned the game engine, REDengine 4, which equips Cyberpunk 2077. For him, this one is not more adapted or less adapted to virtual reality than other engines on which he has already worked.

However, still according to Luke’s words, there are advantages to creating CD Projekt that will make the process easier. The most interesting thing is clearly the fact that the game is already played in first person. He explains that this is a big positive point in favor of the game. He would therefore not have to put a fake “first person camera” as with the Mafia trilogy.

It should be noted that Luke Ross created his own “VR Injection framework”. This has been specially designed to integrate virtual reality into games whose development has not taken into account this type of environment.

To get there, Ross’s mod takes a lot of work from its users. Nonetheless, the whole setup makes it possible to produce VR mods at very impressive speeds.

Finally, Ross gave an approximate date for the release of the VR version of Cyberpunk 2077. He hopes that it will be released before the next update scheduled for the game in the first quarter of 2022. Ideally, he talks about a release in January.
