In the laboratories HT 102 Projects, from Cancer of Cancer to Alzheimer

From the search for new drugs for metastatic breast cancer, to the study of the evolution of DNA in the different eras: they are two of the 102 research projects that have been able to use the technologies made available to researchers throughout Italy of Human Technopole (HT), the Hub dedicated to the life sciences created in Mind, in the former Expo area.

In June last year, HT announced the opening of the first access notice to national platforms, giving the Italian scientific community the opportunity to take advantage of very high resolution microscopes, instrumentation for the latest generation genomic sequencing and tools for the production of stem and organoid cells.

And the results of this first announcement were presented this morning in Milan on the occasion of the “Open HT – the open day on life sciences” event, created to illustrate the goals achieved by Human Technopole in the last year and give an overview of the next objectives.

Five years after the start of its activities, the Institute today has an organic of 500 people, of which 80% researchers and technical-scientific support staff of 39 nationalities and with an average age of 30 years. 40% of the research personnel come from abroad, a hundred Italians, who have already published over 488 articles with HT affiliation and obtained 26 million external funding through European and international grants and scholarships, including five ERC – the Grant of the European Commission. In addition “by opening its instruments to the scientific community, Human Technopole acts as a catalyst for Italian research” underlined the president Gianmario Verona and therefore, added the director Marino Zerial, supports “by any means at his disposal the search for Italian scientists”. Among the projects of the first calls, which will be developed in the HT workshops, a high number is linked to the care of cancer (39), ten others on neurodegenerative pathologies, such as Alzheimer’s, and seven on genetic ones, such as fatal family insomnia.
