Memorandum Italia-Norway on observation solar phenomena

The Embassy of Italy in Oslo today hosted the signature of a Memorandum in agreement as part of the Solaris project, concerning the observation of solar phenomena and the meteorology of space.

Solaris is a scientific and technological project between research bodies and Italian universities aimed at developing an intelligent monitoring system and at high radio frequencies of solar phenomena, based on “single-toh” imaging techniques. The Mou aims to create two new observation points at Troms ›, in the north of Norway, and in the Arctic archipelago of the Svalbard Islands, which will be added to the Solaris radio and telescopes already present in Antarctica.

The signature ceremony was held at the residence of the ambassador Stefano Nicoletti and saw the participation of all the partners of the project, namely the Inif and the University of Milan from the Italian side and the University of Oslo, the geophysical observatory of the University of Troms ›and the University Center of the devices from the Norwegian side. Three representatives of Nosa, the Norwegian space agency, were also present at the ceremony, testifying to the attention placed by the local scientific authorities towards new and profitable collaborations with Italy.

“I accepted with pleasure the request of the parts of the Mou to host the signing ceremony of this new important piece in the scientific and space relations between Italy and Norway,” commented the ambassador Stefano Nicoletti. “In recent times we have witnessed a consolidation of the collaborations existing between our two countries and the opening of new significant channels of dialogue in the space field. The mission of Italian companies and entities in the sector in Norway last June and the recent visit of the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso and the deputy Foreign Minister, Edmondo Cirielli, at the space of the island of and› Ya, testify to it. Country, a strategic infrastructure being completed to encourage autonomous European space access “.

“The state road is proud to be alongside Norway for this important memorandum of understanding on solar phenomena and the meteorology of space. These are themes developed at high level by our Physics Department: this agreement confirms the intensive Research character of our research and its international breath”, commented the rector of the University of Milan, Marina Brambilla.
