Great white shark kills man in front of Sydney beach

A huge white shark attacked and killed a man in front of a Sydney beach in the first fatal attack in the area in 60 years. This was reported by the ABC news website.
Rescuers intervened on the spot, reporting that the victim, who was swimming in a black wetsuit, had suffered “catastrophic injuries” and died shortly after.
Horrified witnesses said they saw the shark drag the victim under the surface. Police then found human remains in nearby water and half of a torn wetsuit. The swimmer has not been identified, but according to an eyewitness he is a man.
A fisherman who was on the nearby rocks described the predator as an exceptionally large white shark.
The attack allegedly took place in the waters of Little Bay beach. Shortly after 4:30 pm, four ambulances and a rescue helicopter rushed to Buchan Point on the northern side of the beach near Malabar.
Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said the community is in shock. “The coast is our backyard,” he said. “Little Bay is usually a calm and beautiful place, frequented by families.”
Randwick City Council has closed its beaches, including Little Bay, Malabar, Maroubra, Coogee, Clovelly and La Perouse, to the public for 24 hours.
Authorities are now monitoring the area to locate and possibly capture the shark, which would then be relocated further out to sea, and which could be more than one.
