Al-Shabaab Islamists launched two simultaneous attacks in Somalia on police stations around the capital Mogadishu, killing two girls and injuring more than ten people, security officials said.
Heavily armed men stormed a police station in the Kaxda district, causing a fire fight with the security forces. “Terrorists with a vehicle loaded with explosives attacked the police station in the Kaxda district,” Abdifatah Adan Hassan, a police spokesman, told reporters, adding that the men also seized a police vehicle.
In a second attack, Islamists targeted the suburb of Darussalam on the outskirts of Mogadishu. “Two girls died in the attack, while 16 other civilians and three members of the security forces were injured,” she added.
The jihadist group al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for both attacks, claiming to target six locations in and near the Somali capital.
