(ANSA) – TUNIS, 07 MAR – The members of the Provisional Superior Council of the Judiciary were sworn in today before the Tunisian President Kais Saied. This was announced by the presidency of the Tunisian Republic on its Facebook page. On February 5, Saied announced the dissolution of the CSM, and then published, on February 13, the decree establishing the new CSM which will remain in office until a new text is drafted.
The decision to dissolve the CSM immediately aroused harsh criticism from the Tunisian judges themselves who observed two days of strike and from a large part of the international community who highlighted the non-respect of the independence of the judiciary and the one-sidedness of the action . President Saied responded harshly by stating that Tunisia is a sovereign state, reiterating the need for an uncorrupted judiciary. (HANDLE).
