Ukraine: Mickey Rourke, war is a nightmare but Putin was empathetic

(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, 19 MAR – Russia’s war in Ukraine is “a nightmare and I pray to God every day that Putin will put an end to it”. American actor and former boxer Mickey Rourke said this in an interview with Fox News. The ‘9 and a half weeks’ star is the latest in a series of celebrities to have their say on the invasion of Moscow but unlike his colleague Sean Penn, sided with Kiev and often a megaphone of the Ukrainian government in the United States, he confessed to have admired the Kremlin leader in the past. “When I was in Russia he took me to visit a children’s hospital with him and I saw him really moved in front of all those children with cancer,” Rourke said, calling Putin an “empathetic” person.

The actor also praised the Klitschko brothers, Kyiv mayor Vitali and brother Volodymyr, former professional boxers who are fighting to defend their country.

“They have enough money to get on a private plane and get out of there,” Rourke said. “But instead they stay, they are angry, they are not afraid of dying”. (HANDLE).
