(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 26 – At least twenty demonstrators, mainly women, gathered this morning near the Ministry of Education in Kabul calling for the reopening of secondary schools for girls. The BBC writes, stating that the demonstrators shouted various slogans, claiming the right to education. The Taliban have in the past dispersed the demonstrations and arrested the people involved, but on this occasion the protest was allowed to continue. In power in Afghanistan since August 2021, the Taliban overturned their own decision to allow girls to study in middle and high schools on Wednesday. An unexpected announcement, which aroused numerous condemnations, including those of the UN, UNESCO and six Western countries, including the United States and the European Union, which asked fundamentalist Islamists to “immediately revoke” their decision.
