Elections in Malta, Labor towards third consecutive victory

(ANSA) – LA VALLETTA, MARCH 26 – The voting operations for the renewal of the Maltese Parliament began at 7 am. The polls will remain open until 10 pm. For the first time, citizens who have reached the age of 16 will also participate, while remaining ‘minors’ up to 18 years of age as regards civil and criminal liability. According to all polls, the Labor party, in government since 2013, is heading for its third consecutive victory and should win an absolute majority. Out of a total of 340,323 people who withdrew their ballot papers (another 14,473 gave up), the margin between Labor and the center-right Nationalist party is predicted between 28,000 and 39,000 votes.

Prime Minister Robert Abela has already voted in his hometown of Marsaskala, as has PN leader Bernard Grech in Mosta.

In addition to the usual sections in the public buildings of the 13 electoral districts of the country, 7 ‘Covid polling stations’ have been set up to guarantee the right to vote for positive or quarantined people.

The count will be carried out tomorrow. The paper cards will be collected manually, but the count will be done electronically, repeating the novelty introduced in 2019 for the European championships. (HANDLE).
