More than a thousand protest in Tunisia against President Saied

(ANSA) – TUNIS, APRIL 10 – Over a thousand people today accepted the appeal of the Islamic party Ennhadha and the collective “Citizens against the coup” to celebrate in front of the Municipal Theater of Tunis, on the central Avenue Bourguiba, the Martyrs Day but above all to protest against the measures decided by President Kais Saied last, called a coup d’état, against the dissolution of Parliament, and to defend democracy and the Constitution.

In a note, however, the Ministry of the Interior indicated the number of demonstrators, at 12, at 400, underlining that there is an ordinance that expressly prohibits the use of Avenue Bourguiba for political demonstrations, only those of a political nature being allowed. recreational and cultural type.

The security apparatus put in place by the authorities is impressive.

Several leaders of Ennahdha and of the collective “Citizens against the coup” present, such as Jaouhar Ben Mbarek, Ahmed Néjib Chebbi, the lawyer Adberrazek Kilani and Habib Bouajila.

Waving national flags and with slogans such as “no democracy without legislative power”, “degage”, “down with the coup” “with elections and not a coup”, the demonstrators called for the dismissal of President Kais Saied and the reopening of Parliament. Saied in fact announced on 30 March the dissolution of Parliament, eight months after having suspended it in July 2021, a decision taken a few hours after the holding of a virtual meeting of 120 parliamentarians, who challenged the assembly’s ban on activities.
