(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, APRIL 11 – The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Iryna Venediktova, said that at the moment there are over “5,800 cases” of war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine. In particular, Venediktova spoke of the massacre in Bucha, near Kiev, where he will carry out a new inspection tomorrow.
“Here we are still exhuming corpses from mass graves”, he said in an interview with CNN, stating that what he found on the ground are not only “war crimes but also against humanity”.
As for the possible trials against the perpetrators of these atrocities, a topic that has also been discussed for days in the United States and Europe, the prosecutor stated that Ukraine “wants to prosecute these criminals in the country, in Ukrainian courts”. But “obviously there is also the path of the International Criminal Court”, she added. There are currently over 500 suspects, including senior military officers and senior Russian officials.
