USA: 93% big city neighborhoods too expensive for African Americans

(ANSA) – NEW YORK, MAY 10 – Major cities in the United States are not a place for African Americans. This was revealed by a research by the National Equity Atlas, which collects data on racial and economic equity, according to which 93% of the neighborhoods of the most populous metropolitan areas of the country are too expensive for African American residents. The research was carried out in 2019 by comparing rents and wages in a hundred cities and examining whether the majority of families of different racial groups were earning enough to afford an average rent in some neighborhood of those cities. It found that only 7% of neighborhoods had rents affordable for African American residents while 69% were affordable for white families. Of the hundred cities examined, 48 were too expensive for the exponents of the ‘black community’. Most of the neighborhoods within their reach and that of Latin Americans have been classified as low-level, that is, with a lack of investment, quality education systems, services or a decent job market. California was the least affordable state for these population groups. (HANDLE).
