Griner, star of US women’s basketball, remains in prison in Moscow

(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, MAY 13 – US women’s basketball star Brittney Griner will remain in custody in Russia for another month. This was decided today by a Russian court, according to what her lawyer told the New York Times.

Griner was arrested at the Moscow airport in mid-February on charges of drug possession and risks of up to 10 years in prison.

“She’s fine,” assured the lawyer Aleksandr Boikov, explaining that the court rejected her request to transfer the champion under house arrest. The US State Department has repeatedly denounced the basketball star’s detention as unfair, assuring that the government “will continue its efforts to bring support” to Griner. (HANDLE).
