With the discovery of the body of the last person declared missing in the explosion of the Hotel Saratoga in Havana, the Cuban authorities announced the conclusion of the search for the victims in the tragedy that devastated the island on May 6. The latest official toll from the Ministry of Health reports 45 deaths in the accident.
According to what was reported by the Cuban media, the last body, found last night in the rubble of the hotel, is that of a hotel maid. With the conclusion of the search and rescue operations, carried out continuously for six days by the firefighters and other emergency teams, the cleaning and removal of debris in the area where the accident occurred will now continue.
The Cuban Ministry of Health reported that 15 people still remain hospitalized from injuries sustained in the blast.
With the conclusion of the search operations, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel decreed two days of official mourning for the tragedy, from 6 am local time today to 12 noon on 14 May.
