Tunisia: opposition in the streets against President Saied

(ANSA) – TUNIS, MAY 15 – Over two thousand people today took up the appeal of the “National Salvation Front” (made up of 5 parties and 5 associations), and of the collective “Citizens against the coup d’etat” demonstrating on central Avenue Bourguiba of Tunis, against the measures of President Kais Saied.

Brandishing signs that read “we will win”, “we are united not divided”, “the people want what you do not want”, the protesters, including many members of the Islamic party Ennhadha and the Islamist coalition Al Karama, shouted their opposition. to what they define as a “coup d’etat” carried out by President Saied, demanding “respect for the Constitution and a return to democracy”.

Another demonstration against the Tunisian president was staged in front of the headquarters of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (Iums), by the Free Destourian Party (PDL), a secular political group inspired by Bourghibism, which has been asking for its closure for months . The leader of the PDL, Abir Moussi had announced a protest march in the direction of the Palace of Carthage for today but the Interior Ministry did not allow it to take place. (HANDLE)
