(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 25 – In Ukraine 29 journalists were killed in three months of war, seven while on duty. And in total, 280 crimes against the media were committed. The news was reported by the Ukrinform agency, citing a monitoring of the Ukrainian Institute of Mass Media.
As of May 24, nine journalists were injured and at least 15 were missing. Among them is Dmytro Khilyuk, who disappeared in the Kiev region during the Russian occupation.
“Although this area has been cleared since March, the Institute of the Mass Media has not yet been able to find it,” the statement read.
During the invasion, the Russians seized numerous editorial offices: in fact, at least 113 media were forced to block the presses.
The number of threats and cyber attacks against journalists and the media is also growing: they are 50. “If at first the Russians physically threatened (they went home to journalists or their relatives), now they prefer to do it on the internet”, reads the statement. “Since the beginning of March – the note continues – there has been a constant tendency to intimidate journalists with threats of imprisonment in Siberia, torture and interrogations.
