Who are “Putin’s wallets”?

According to the authors of the OCCRP investigation, the Russian president prefers to write down his assets to “nominees” – people who sometimes do not themselves know how rich the companies registered in their name are. Two such “nominees,” often referred to as “Putin’s wallets,” cellist Sergei Roldugin and Putin’s childhood friend Pyotr Kolbin, are well known to the authors of numerous investigations into the assets of the Russian president and his inner circle.

The authors of the OCCRP report also included in the Russian leader’s “personal circle” his other relatives and big businessmen, who were repeatedly called “Putin’s friends” in the media. The list, in particular, included Nikolai and Yuri Shamalov, Igor, Roman and Mikhail Putin, as well as Boris and Arkady Rotenberg. The investigation emphasizes that the most successful businesses of entrepreneurs from the “personal circle” are associated with large state-owned enterprises, including oil and gas companies.
