The death toll of a collapsed building continues to rise in Abadan, in the Khuzestan province of Iran. Another body was recovered today, nine days after the tragedy, bringing the death toll to 34, while 37 people were injured.
38 are missing, while at least 13 people have been arrested and accused of being responsible for what happened The incident sparked a wave of protest rallies, not only in Abadan but also in many other cities, including Ahvaz, Khorramshahr, Behbahan, Shahinshahr, Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd and Shahr-e Rey south of Tehran.
The people who took to the streets faced riot police lined up with tear gas. Shouted slogans against leader Ali Khamenei. “Cannons, tanks, fireworks (they are useless), the mullahs have to go.”
