(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 08 – Over a thousand Ukrainian soldiers and foreign mercenaries who had surrendered to Mariupol have been transferred to Russia for questioning, according to a security source from the Russian news agency Tass.
“Over 1,000 people from Azovstal, including foreign mercenaries who surrendered in Mariupol, have been transferred to Russia – explains the source – Law enforcement is working with them and investigators plan to bring more prisoners to Russia. in the future”.
Ukraine has said it is working for the return of all prisoners, while some Russian MPs say they should be tried. The Guardian previously reported that more than 900 Ukrainian soldiers who were trapped in the besieged Mariupol steel plant had been sent to a prison colony on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine, according to Moscow.
