Zaki: sources, ‘another update tomorrow, maybe two months’

(ANSA) – CAIRO, 20 JUN – The hearing in the trial of Patrick Zaki scheduled for tomorrow morning in Mansura should be postponed with a postponement “that could take up to two months”, given that “it is too early for a sentence” : this was reported by a judicial source to ANSA, warning however that the one against the Egyptian student of the University of Bologna is a “political trial” and therefore “could also be closed unexpectedly” by the single judge.

“I have no forecasts for the next hearing”, her lawyer, Hoda Nasrallah, always told ANSA, refusing to provide any other information in this regard. Another judicial source, however, predicted that tomorrow, “if the defense ends its plea, the trial will be postponed in order to issue a sentence”.

The 31-year-old Patrick is on the loose after being released from prison on December 8 and at the end of 22 months of pre-trial detention, but at the moment he cannot return to Italy due to the ongoing trial for “spreading false news inside and outside the Country “on the basis of a 2019 article on Christians in Egypt persecuted by Isis and discriminated against by fringes of Muslim society.

Regarding the request presented to the Egyptian Prosecutor General for his departure to Italy before the sentence, Hoda reported that “we have not received any response”. (HANDLE).
