Ukraine: the US uses robot dogs for mine clearance

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 23 – The US army will make one of its two robot dogs available to help the American NGO HALO Trust mine the areas in Ukraine previously occupied by Russian forces near the capital Kiev: the US magazine writes Foreign Policy.

The HALO Trust will use Spot, Boston Dynamics’ robotic dog capable of removing explosive devices, said NGO executive director Chris Whatley. Spot was successfully tested last year and will also be used in Ukraine to neutralize the so-called ‘bomblets’ – or under-ammunition – of the cluster bombs used by the Russians in the country.

In particular, the mechanical quadruped will have a robotic arm instead of the head, with which it will be able to drag the unexploded ammunition into pits containing other ammunition, which will be detonated safely. (HANDLE).
