Gb: drunk palpates men in club, Tory government member resigns

(ANSA) – LONDON, 01 JUL – Another headache for the government of Boris Johnson, hit by yet another sex scandal in British politics. This time the story concerns Chris Pincher, forced to resign in these hours as deputy chief whip of the Conservative Party in the House of Commons, a position that in the Kingdom system coincides with a role of cabinet member, after getting drunk a few nights ago in a private club, the Cotton Club of London, and having “groped two men”, as discovered and revealed by the tabloid Sun.

Pincher, called until yesterday to supervise the discipline of the parliamentary majority group, apologized for his behavior and resigned the mandate in a letter sent to the premier this morning. At the moment it does not appear that he has been denounced by the two men involved in the facts and has not been subjected to disciplinary measures. Although a Downing Street source admitted he did “very badly” and some government colleagues have suggested his imminent suspension from the ranks of the Tory group.

The Labor opposition for its part has seized the ball to return to Johnson’s attack and to urge Chris Pincher’s resignation as a deputy, as well as an investigation into the incident. The Conservative Party – said the deputy leader of Labor, Angela Rayner – “cannot try to cover up a new potential case of sexual harassment”. (HANDLE).
