Australia: Sydney floods, 50,000 people evacuated

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 05 – About 50,000 people have been invited to evacuate their homes due to the floods that hit Sydney for the third time since the beginning of the year.

The BBC writes it.

The streets of the city are closed, some houses are under water and thousands of people are left without electricity.

Flooding across Australia killed more than 20 people this year, many of them in New South Wales.

Inhabitants of 50 other areas have been warned to prepare to leave, due to the flooding of some major rivers. Bad weather is also affecting the neighboring regions of Hunter and Illawarra.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, 800 mm of rain fell in four days in parts of NSW, nearly a third more than the average rainfall the city receives in a year. (HANDLE).
