Central Africa: Pam asks for 68.4 million dlrs for food crisis

(ANSA) – GENEVA, 05 JUL – The World Food Program (WFP / WFP) today made an urgent appeal for the 68.4 million dollars needed to help the Central African Republic, grappling with a growing food crisis, specifying that 2, 2 million people (out of a population of 5.5 million) suffer from acute food insecurity and their situation is likely to worsen in the coming months.

“The Central African Republic is facing unprecedented humanitarian needs and a deteriorating food security situation,” said WFP spokesperson Tomson Phiri.

“Food insecurity in the Central African Republic is determined by the combined effects of the protracted internal armed conflict, persistent insecurity and displacement of the population,” he added, specifying that a sharp increase in raw materials is expected from August. Growth forecasts are 30 percent for the price of rice, 67 percent for wheat flour and 70 percent for vegetable oil. (HANDLE).
