‘Culture is the strongest asset of Italian soft power’

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 25 – With the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy at the Farnesina “we wanted to optimize together the tools for the projection of Italian soft power abroad, and culture is the strongest asset of this soft power, you can rely on “. This was stated by Ambassador Pasquale Quito Terracciano, head of the Directorate General, during the ANSA Forum ‘Italy cultural superpower, the role of the Farnesina’.

The Forum takes place on the eve of the Conference of Directors of the Italian Cultural Institutes Abroad to be held in Naples at the Teatro San Carlo, on July 28 and 29, during which, among other things, it will reflect “on the contribution that the territorial realities can give to our cultural projection “abroad.

The meeting “will be a reflection on what is the story of Italy that we want to do abroad, what is the new image of Italy, how we overcome stereotypes and how we position ourselves as a beacon of values that we want to promote globally” , Terracciano explained.

“Italy is not new to using culture as a tool to project its own interests and values” and “today we want to give greater vigor to the projection of this soft power with the creation of the new DG that brings together the cultural network abroad with cultural institutes, schools, archaeological missions, collaboration with Unesco and communication in the broad sense of the term “, which contemplates” the ability to react to disinformation and the hybrid war that is fought against fake news “, argued the ambassador.

The new Directorate also promotes the Italian candidacy in international organizations, because “being a country that has always believed and bet on effective multilateralism, the Italian presence in international organizations is a way to strengthen it”. (HANDLE).
