Spain: Macarena Olona, leader of Vox, leaves politics

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 29 – “I come to oppose with the best of my smiles”. This was the declaration of intent with which Macarena Olona (from Alicante, born in 1979) made her debut as a member of the Andalusian parliament just two weeks ago, on July 14th. Today the announcement of the abandonment of politics, and therefore also of the far-right Vox party, for “medical reasons beyond her control”, as reported through a letter disclosed on social networks. El Pais writes it.

Olona communicated his decision to the president of the team, Santiago Abascal. His intention is to return to his post at the State Prosecutor’s Office. But, regardless of the state of health, which according to sources was known to some party members, behind the decision there would also be the role of the deputy in the party, de facto removed from the founding nucleus of Vox, to which Olona never belonged and where, according to sources close to the formation, its ‘cumbersome’ presence was beginning to annoy.

Santiago Abascal thanked the former leader for his work, leaving her the door open to return to his party whenever he wants. “I can only have words of gratitude for Macarena Olona. I am sure that the excellent service he has provided to Vox and Spain is nothing compared to what he will provide in the future. In this house, which is yours, you will always have the open doors”.
