(ANSA) – NAIROBI, JUL 31 – The President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta has officially inaugurated the elevated highway of the capital Nairobi built by a Chinese government company, the China Road & Bridge Corporation.

The official inauguration of the infrastructure, costing about 800 million dollars, took place after the three-month trial period in which the “Nairobi Expressway” which connects various points of the metropolis with the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was tested.

“This is the first private partnership project in Kenya – explained the Kenyan president, as reported by the Daily Nation newspaper – and it was not financed with debt or state funds. The Nairobi Expressway marks the Kenyan government’s turning point towards the exploitation of capital. private sector to fill our infrastructural deficit “.

Kenyatta explained that the China Road and Bridge Corporation designed, financed and built the expressway and will continue to maintain and operate it for 30 years before transferring ownership to the government. During the concession period, the company will collect tolls from motorists using the road, thus recovering their investment. (HANDLE).
