(ANSA) – JACKSON, AUGUST 01 – The death toll from floods in eastern Kentucky has risen to 37, while heavy rain continues to hinder recovery operations and threaten further damage. And there are still very many missing. Andy Beshear, governor of the south-central state of the United States, tweeted it.
“We end the day with more heartbreaking news from eastern Kentucky. We can confirm that the death toll has now risen to 37, with many more still missing,” he tweeted.
A series of new incoming storms are expected for the American night. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for most of eastern Kentucky for this evening and through Tuesday morning, warning that “a series of storms are expected to move over the region tonight.”
“Heavy rains are possible which could lead to flash floods along with severe thunderstorms,” the meteorological agency tweeted.
Over 20 centimeters of rain fell over parts of eastern Kentucky last week in 24 hours, causing unprecedented flash floods. (HANDLE).
