(ANSA) – BEIJING, 03 AUG – “We come in friendship to Taiwan, we come in peace to the region”: this is what the president of the American Chamber Nancy Pelosi said, speaking in the first meeting of her visit to Taipei that sparked the harsh reaction of China.
At the Legislative Yuan, the island’s parliament, Pelosi was received by Vice President Tsai Chi-Chang, who thanked for the welcome, underlining the importance of the links between Washington and Taipei, also in light of the CHIPS Act, which will offer subsidies for over $ 52 billion for chip manufacturing. The last visit of a speaker of the US Congress to the parliament in Taipei was in 1960. (ANSA).
