Salman Rushdie attacked on stage in Ny, attacker stopped

Writer Salman Rushdie was attacked today in upstate New York while he was giving a lecture in the town of Chautauqua. This was reported by an Associated Press reporter present at the scene according to which a man went up on the stage where the writer was and stabbed him. The assailant was stopped soon after. The writer was immediately assisted by those present and, according to international media, would have stood up on his own. He was then transported to the hospital, although his condition is not yet known.
Salman Rushdie is the author of ‘The Satanic Verses’, the book that was banned in Iran in 1988 because it was considered blasphemous.
Ayatollah Khomeini, the year after the book’s publication, launched a fatwa against the Indian writer offering a $ 3 million reward to those who killed him. Supreme leader Ali Khamenei renewed the fatwa in 2017, and in 2019 via Twitter.
