Spain: PP, train episode surrounded by fire is clarified

(ANSA) – MADRID, AUGUST 18 – The main opposition political force in Spain, the Popular Party (PP), is asking for “clarification” on the incident that occurred on Tuesday in the Valencian Community, when a train with passengers on board he found himself surrounded by the flames of a big fire and several people were injured (three of them seriously). “It is clear that there has been a serious mistake, which has put human lives in danger,” the leader of the team, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, told the media.

According to preliminary information, some passengers on the train – which was traveling on the Valencia-Zaragoza route – tried to escape from the train to avoid being caught by the flames. Journalistic reconstructions revealed that the train driver had not received any particular danger warnings before departure. “Why wasn’t she warned? Why wasn’t the line cut off early enough to prevent that train from running under such circumstances?” Feijóo wonders.

Both the police and the companies responsible for the Spanish railways and passenger traffic on these lines, Adif and Renfe, are investigating the incident. “We will have no problem responding, when the time is right, in Parliament,” replied the popular leader Isabel Rodríguez, the spokesperson for the central government, in statements released to Spanish media.
