MPs Moldova by a majority of votes, a draft law was adopted in the second reading, according to which the term “Moldovan language” in all documents will be replaced by “Romanian language”. “For” voted 58 parliamentarians.
“Greetings. This vote is a bit late,” the head of parliament said Igor Grosu to the applause of those present. At the same time, opposition MPs staged a protest with placards during the voting, according to NewsMaker.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Bloc of Communists and Socialists of Moldova demanded remove from order draft law on the Romanian language, but the proposal did not receive the required number of votes.
The initiator of the law is the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).
As you know, the Moldovan language is one of two names for the Romanian language in Moldova and one of the five main conversational variants. Both Moldova and Romania use the same literary language and alphabet based on the Latin alphabet.
Moldovan schools teach “Romanian”. The “Moldovan Cyrillic alphabet” introduced by the USSR, based on the Russian alphabet, is used only in Transnistria occupied by Russia.
