U.S. intelligence said in a highly anticipated report on Friday that there was no evidence for the existence of extraterrestrials, while acknowledging that dozens of phenomena seen by military pilots could not be explained.
There is “probably not a single explanation” for these phenomena, indicates this report published by the services of the national director of intelligence. “We currently do not have enough information in our databases to attribute these incidents to specific causes,” he adds.
No explanation for more than 140 phenomena
In this report, which lists incidents that occurred between 2004 and 2021, the American intelligence services admit having no explanation for more than 140 phenomena. But all of the information gathered remains “largely inconclusive”, they say.
Out of 144 incidents studied, only one could be explained. It was a big balloon that was deflating. Eighteen of them showed unusual movements or flight characteristics that surprised those who observed them.
Threats or UFOs
Some could be explained by the presence of drones or birds creating confusion in the radar systems of the American military. Others could result from tests of military equipment or technologies carried out by other powers, such as China or Russia.
The American intelligence services fear, for example, that China or Russia are testing hypersonic technologies, moving at 10 or even 20 times the speed of sound, and very maneuverable, according to officials quoted by the media.
Curiosity about these phenomena was fueled by the publication last year of videos taken by US Navy pilots, which showed in-flight encounters with what appear to be unidentified flying objects (UFOs ). One of these videos is from November 2004 and the other two are from January 2015.
And after decades of secrecy, Congress ordered the executive to brief the general public on the activities of the Pentagon unit responsible for studying them. The report does not explicitly mention the possibility that these phenomena are linked to extraterrestrial life. But he doesn’t rule it out either.
The US military and intelligence are primarily concerned with determining whether these phenomena may be linked to threats against the United States. “These unidentified aerial phenomena raise questions about flight safety and the national security of the United States,” the report says.
According to Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, the number of such incidents has tended to increase since 2018. “This report, which does not provide a clear conclusion, is only the beginning of efforts to explain what is behind causes risks to aviation in many areas of the country and the world, “he said in a statement.
“The United States must be able to understand and reduce the threats to our pilots, whether they come from drones, weather balloons or the intelligence capabilities of our adversaries,” he added.
