Kremlin announced, on Tuesday (6), that 29 foreign leaders, including President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinpingwill be in Moscow On Friday (9) for the parade of victory against the Nazis. The parade that celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany generates expectations, as it is seen as an opportunity for the Russian government to gather support for its offensive in Ukraine.

“We expect 29 foreign leaders at the victory parade,” Yuri Ushakov, diplomatic advisor to President Vladimir Putin, told reporters. Cuba President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Moscow on Tuesday after an initial visit to St. Petersburg, Cuban media and Russian news agency Sputnik said.

Chinese and Brazilian presidents, Xi Jinping and LulaThey will hear Putin’s speech in the Red Square. Moscow also announced the presence of Indonesian leaders, Burkina Faso, Bosnia, Vietnam, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Iraq, Congo, Myanmar, Ethiopia and Equatorial Guinea, who will join the traditional allies of Russia in Central Asia, among others.

The presence of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is also expected, who challenges the position of the EU; Serbian head of state, Aleksandar Vucic, and the president of the Serbs of Bosnia, Milorad Dodik. “Formations from 13 countries will parade,” including troops from China, Egypt, Vietnam, Myanmar and several former Soviet republics, added Ushakov.

Kiev warned third countries troops on Tuesday not to march alongside Russian soldiers in Red Square, saying this would equivalent to “sharing responsibility” for Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.
