Despite the announcement of a “total and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistanmade by US President Donald Trump, on Saturday (10), the clashes in the Caixemira region again recorded hours later. New Delhi accused Islamabad of violating the truce, while Pakistan denied the accusations and said he was committed to the agreement. The truce was negotiated after four days of intense fighting between the two countries, which left at least 60 dead on the border and in areas of the Cashmireregion historically disputed on both sides.

The conflict intensified after an attack on April 22, which killed 26 tourists at Caxemira administered by India. Nova Delhi blamed the Armed Lashkar-e-Taiba group, based on Pakistan-accusation rejected by Islamabad. India’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Vikram Misri, said his country responded in a “proper and appropriate” way to the alleged violations of the ceasefire. Already the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, through a statement, said that “it remains committed to the implementation of the agreement” and requested moderation on both sides. Islamabad also accused India of breaking the pact.

Witnesses reported explosions in the city of Srinagar, in Caxemira administered by India, even after the advertisement of the truce. The chief minister of the region, Omar Abdullah, questioned on social networks: “What the hell happened to the ceasefire? Explosions are being heard throughout srinagar!”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised the peace initiative and said he hoped the ceasefire will bring to a lasting agreement. Representatives from other countries also celebrated the truce, such as the United Kingdom and Iran, who asked for the end of hostilities and the resumption of dialogue. The ceasefire was intermediated by the United States after meetings conducted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance with Indian and Pakistani authorities. According to Rubio, both countries agreed to start formal negotiations in a neutral place.

The consequences of recent conflict include human losses, economic damage and destruction of military equipment. According to Pakistan, 77 Israeli drones from India were slaughtered. Nova Delhi, in turn, said he destroyed hundreds of Pakistani drones and avoided combat aircraft attacks. Pakistan still claims to have knocked down five Indian fighters – including three French Rafale – something that India has not confirmed.

Since 1947, when they gained the independence of the United Kingdom, India and Pakistan have already crashed several wars by controlling cashmire. The tension worsened in 2019, after the Indian government removed the autonomy of the region and assuming its direct control, causing revolt and increasing the activity of local armed groups.
