Rubio congratulated the agreement on the exchange of prisoners reached during the Ukrainian Russian negotiations on May 16 in Istanbul, and transferred the decisive message of President Trump: the United States.
It is also emphasized that the American side considers its world a “peaceful plan” the best way to move forward ”and requires an immediate ceasefire.
“The State Secretary emphasized the calls of President Trump for immediate ceasefire and the cessation of violence,” the department added.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also commented on a conversation with an American official – he traditionally tried to give the Kremlin’s position as constructive, announcing his readiness for further contacts with the United States and noting that Kyiv allegedly agreed to restore negotiations through their participation.
“We are ready to continue to work with colleagues from the United States in this context,” he said.
He also noted that the conversation also affected other international and regional problems. The parties exchanged views on the continuation of Russian-American contacts.
According to OBOZ.UA, the meeting of Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Turkey on May 16 took place in a more positive mood than expected. During negotiations, both parties did not use the indictment. At the same time, at some point, negotiations can go to a dead end, so the intervention of Turkish diplomats was required.
