In response to US attacks, Iran requested on Sunday (22) the closure of the route where about 20% of the oil carried out in the world goes
The closing of Estreito de Ormuza fundamental passage for the transit of oil tankers, would be “extremely dangerous”, warned on Monday (23) the head of the European Union Diplomacy (EU), Kaja Kallas. “The closure of Iran’s Ormuz’s narrow would be extremely dangerous, and it wouldn’t be good for anyone,” said Estonian before a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.
Iran made the first retaliation for US attacks against nuclear facilities -Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan -but it was not an arms response, on the contrary, it was economical. This is because the Parliament of Iran requested, this Sunday (22), the closure of the Strait of Ormuz, where 20% of world traffic traffic by sea. The decision, however, is not yet valid, as it depends on the approval of the Supreme National Security Council, a body composed of the president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, several ministers, three representatives of the supreme leader and figures of the country’s security forces.
In an interview with state television “Press TV”, General Esmaeil Kousari, a member of the Parliament Safety Committee, said the House “reached consensus” to block the strategic Strait of Ormuz. It was unclear whether the decision to close the important sea passage was taken throughout the parliament or just the committee of which Kousari is part.

About 20% of world oil circulates through the Strait of Ormuz, a narrow sea pass between Iran and Oman, which Iranian authorities have threatened several times to block it in response to tensions with the United States and other Western nations. Despite being between Iran and Oman, it is the United States that are responsible for protecting commercial navigation in Ormuz Strait. The region is monitored by the 5th American Navy fleet, based on Bahrain.
