A 37-year-old man with a double Brazilian and Spanish nationality was sentenced to life imprisonment by British justice on Friday for killing a teenager with a sword in April 2024. Born in BrazilMarcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, son of Spanish mother and Brazilian father, attacked 14 -year -old Daniel Anjorin, wearing a Japanese sword called Katana, while the teenager was walking to school using headphones in the Hainault neighborhood, east of London. In the attack, which lasted about 20 minutes, the convict also assaulted other people, injuring two police officers.
Judged at the Old Bailey criminal court in London, the defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday after being declared guilty on Wednesday of murder three attempts at murder and causing serious injuries to two others. On Friday, Judge Joel Bennathan sentenced him to life imprisonment, with a minimum of sentence of almost 39 years. With the time he has spent in prison, Marcus Monzo will be prisoner for at least 40 years.
The judge pointed out that the killer was in a “clearly psychotic” state at the time of the attack, due in part to the prolonged consumption of Cannabis, and added that this does not exist him of responsibility for his actions. “He knew that this made him paranoid, or at least caused him panic crises,” the magistrate insisted. “Daniel (Anjorin) was an intelligent boy. He had musical talent and practiced a lot of sports well. He was happy and his loss is obviously devastating,” the judge added to the murdered teenager.
On April 3, 2024, just before 07h local, Marcus Monzo first ran over a pedestrian with his truck, before assaulting him around his neck with his Japanese sword. Then he returned behind the wheel and stopped on a street, where he attacked Daniel Anjorin. The convict also stabbed a policeman who chased him, and then entered a house and assaulted a sleeping couple. The screams of the couple’s daughter chased him. Then he attacked another agent before finally being contained.
Marked by the police, the accused said he had “many dispersed personalities” and one of them was that of a “professional killer.” Police also found that he had killed his own cat moments before violent attacks.

Ebenezer Anjorin, father of the dead teenager, described on Friday the “pain” felt by the boy’s family. “It was the worst nightmare of our lives. Having to endure the pain of losing a child in such a cruel and wild. No family should have to go through it,” he said.
